For some, the idea may seem like a huge challenge. When you’re feeling stuck, it may feel like there is no alternative and there is no better way to do things. In fact, there are many different ways to rise above that are healthy and fun! Here are some ways to keep your mind and body active.

Find your passion! Be yourself! Go out and seek what makes you happy. Surrounding yourself with the right people who support who you truly can allow you to authentically flourish. They will help you do what is right for you.

Community Involvement

Being an active member in the community is not only a great way to rise above, but it can also give a sense of fulfillment and joy. There are so many different ways to get involved in the community, no matter what your passion or hobbies are! The possibilities are endless.

Volunteering can be a great way to rise above and help out your community. Volunteering can range from helping out in a soup kitchen, fixing community trails or reading to sick children. No matter what your passion is, you can find a volunteering position that is a great match.

Work can be a way to both rise above and make money at the same time. Oftentimes, people don’t put the words “fun” and “work” together, much less in the same sentence. But it doesn’t have to be that way! You spend a lot of time at your job, and it is important for that to be in a healthy and fun environment. Once you enjoy yourself at work, you become more productive and it can transform your life.

Clubs and Activities create friendships and promote positive living. High schools and colleges statewide have hundreds of clubs, varying from traditional chess or key clubs to ski and book clubs. Go out and try something new! And if the club you are interested in doesn’t exist in your school, think about starting a chapter! If not you, who?

Exercise

Exercise can be liberating for the mind, body and soul. Whether it's inside or outside, intense or mild, everyday or once a week, exercise has been proven to help eliminate stress and take care of our health. It is literally healthy fun!

Below are some ideas to help get you started!

Running is one of the most universal ways to exercise. You can run anytime, anywhere and with anyone! Starting to run may seem difficult in the beginning, but fear not! You can do it. If you’d rather go for just a walk, that’s perfectly fine! Walking is a great way to relax and get a breath of fresh air.

Bike Riding lets you rise above, get a workout in and explore the great outdoors at the same time! You can bike around your hometown or find a trail nearby to try out for the first time. Just make sure that any trails that you bike on are permitted for bikers.

Going to the Gym is a common way to get the muscles moving and the heartbeat going. While working out at a gym, you can meet new people, set up a routine and pick from hundreds of different workout sets. It is a very good way to have healthy fun!

Dancing is a wonderful way to exercise and express yourself. There are many different types of dance, ranging from hip-hop to ballet. You can dance solo, with a partner or an entire group.

Hiking reconnects you to nature and opens the many possibilities of the great outdoors. Breathing fresh air and seeing the beautiful sights nature has to offer relieves stress and is fun!

Joining a Sports Team creates friendships, gives regular exercise and can help you to rise above. There are so many different opportunities. From golf to bowling to kickball to soccer, you can find just about anything that makes you happy and keeps you healthy and connected to other healthy peers.

Swimming is a low-impact way to have healthy fun. You can exercise by making workout intervals, or you can just hop in the pool with a friend and catch up. No matter what you choose, you will have a great time and your body will thank you.

While outdoors and fresh air is great, sometimes an indoor activity could be beneficial as well. Finding a new hobby or something you are passionate about can lead to a happy, healthy, active lifestyle. Go out and see what makes you happy and meet new people along the way.

Art lets you create and find your inner imagination. Everyone is a good artist, no matter what. It is only when we compare ourselves to other things that we seem to believe otherwise. There are numerous ways to create art and beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder so don’t be afraid to experiment and create something new!

Crafts can be a great way to engage your mind while creating something cool - plus, it can be done alone or with friends! Activities like knitting, embroidery, crochet, have been shown to reduce stress, enhance mood and build self-esteem.

Music can be another fun way for you to branch out and try something new. The list of different instruments is nearly unlimited, and there are so many different ways to get involved!

Photography is a hobby that many seem to enjoy along with other hobbies. Going for a walk? Grab your camera and snap a few shots along the way. Cell phones make diving into this activity very easy.
